Vietnamese man Tong Phuoc Phuc has been a hero or we can say ‘literally’ a saviour of more than hundred children over the last 15 years. His heart-wrenching tale of selflessness began in 2001, when his wife got pregnant. While he was visiting her at the hospital, he noticed that many pregnant women were entering a room, and coming out no longer with their child.
He was confused at that time and later figured out what was actually happening. Those women were aborting their child. The whole idea of abortion broke Tong’s heart. So he asked the hospital authorities to give him the aborted children so that he can at least give them a proper burial at a proper place.
With all his savings, Tong, a former construction worker bought a land on a hilltop in the city of Nha Trang. There he began to bury those aborted babies. Over years, he had buried some 10,000 babies and slowly he realized that he actually wanted to save their lives instead of burying them.
Tong chose to be a lifesaver for the babies instead of being a gravedigger. He then began to adopt the babies of those mothers, who wanted to abort them. He has now set up a special home, where he takes care of over hundreds of children. Women who don’t have means to support their children started coming to Tong for help. The idea is that once the women are in a more secure life position, the children may return to them if they want or else Tong takes care of them. Adopting hundreds of children is never an easy task but Tong feels much more responsible acting as their father.
