Edward Joseph Snowden is a former CIA employee and NSA contractor who copied and leaked classified information from NSA in 2013.

In May 2013, Snowden flew to Hong Kong with documents containing information on NSA’s domestic surveillance practices.

He does not have a bachelor’s degree but worked online toward a master’s degree at the University of Liverpool in 2011.

Snowden began noticing that the NSA is spying on millions of American Citizen via phone calls and internet use.

Snowden started to leak information about the NSA using an anonymous identity.

He used the codename “Verax” which means “Truth Teller” in Latin to hide his identity.

According to Greenwald an Americal Journalist, Snowden has disclosed over 9,000 to 10,000 documents.

Snowden claims that the NSA has also hacked into computer networks at Tsinghua University in China.

June 14, 2013, he was charged with theft of government property with maximum prison of ten years.

On October 29, 2015, the European Parliament voted 285 to 281 for a nonbinding resolution to drop criminal charges against him.

Snowden is one of the biggest whistleblowers in recent times.
